Blu-rays

Well my final 2008 purchases have all arrived, not quite spent my holiday pay but pretty close although UK prices haven't been too bad.
I've got The Dark Knight, The Mummy 3 and Cliffhanger all to watch and have seen over the last few days Hellboy2 and Elf. I finally got around to watching the Starship Troopers trilogy, the first movie is fun but the seoncd is terrible and the third despite what's his name coming back wasn't much better, so glad I got the trilogy for under £18.

Robert Carlyle

Now this could make the new Stargate:Universe series as Robert Carlyle has signed on to play the regular character Dr David Rush. He recently appeared beside Kiefer Sutherland in the 24 Redemption tv movie and quite frankly acted Kiefer off the screen, he was also rumored to be in the running for the new Dr Who.

Holidays

The first day of my christmas holidays, don't go back to work until the 5th of January.
You wanna guess what I've been doing all morning, yes that's right decorating the lounge, lots of white paint on the ceiling and slight off white on the walls, what fun.
I have to do the other side of the room tomorrow but then that's it the rest of the month is all mine apart from xmas decorating (not a chore), xmas shopping (always fun) and those pesky relatives which you only see once a year.

Footy

My team Derby County have drawn Manchester United in the Carling Cup semi-final, don't think we'll be going to Wembley this season, maybe the play-offs.

I got a few more Blu-rays today, UK prices and bundling are pretty good atm.
  • Wanted
  • Good Luck Chuck
  • Elf
  • Cliffhanger

Dr Horrible

The official DVD has just appeared over on Amazon as an exclusive, nice and cheap but hey the exchange rate and p&p doesn't really help matters, I'll wait for a UK distributor or it to be offered from a more flexible US dealer.

Ivana Milicevic

The gorgeous Ivana Milicevic has turned up in the latest C&C Red Alert 3 computer game. I'm a fan of the franchise but apart from her delectable visage the games stinks, rather dig out some of the older versions, they look and play better.

Wall-E

I got my copy of the movie from HMV today, alas they sent me the DVD version instead of the Blu-ray and from reading a few comments on the AVForums it's happened to others as well.
I can send it back freepost but no guarantee now of getting it before the holidays/

PS3 etc

Well my new UK spec 80gig PS3 arrived yesterday and it's all up and running now. I have TVersity running on the PC which in conjunction with the console is acting as a media server, it's just such a more user friendly way to play PC based content on the Plasma.
The PS3 package I went for cost £289 (Amazon) and included a HDMI cable and Motorstorm:Pacific Rift so a decent price although knowing my luck the chancellor will reduce VAT in the budget.

Streaming media aside the standalone player for Blu-ray is also so much better to use and I've been able to get a good way into Chuck.

Bad news at least for me is the cancellation of Eli Stone and Pushing Daises, two of my favourite shows from last season but if truth be told they have both a lost a little on their second seasons.

Mini Reviews

It's mini review time for movies I've watched recently.

Hancock
Well what a let down this was, great idea and at the beginning Will Smith nailed the indifferent and reckless superhero character down pat but really as the plot developed it was just meh, not interesting at all.
Wanted
Well I loved the trailer but as you know sometimes the trailer shows all the good stuff and in this case the supporting story of the movie simply wasn't strong enough to carry the already seen action footage.
Wall-E
Well I'd heard good and bad about the story (not the CGI of course which was incredible) so wasn't sure what to expect. I have to say now that I simply loved it, as always Pixar gets the characters just right and I really felt for Wall-E and Eve and was quite happy with the soft cell environmental over tones.
The Happening
That sucked bigtime, very interesting idea but who have a toss, it was just bad.
Iron Man
Kick ass action superhero movie. A brilliant cast, spot on origin story and a main plot that actually was good enough to carry the second half of the movie.

For those that are interested Wall-E is currently being offered in HMV's 2 for £25 Blu-ray promotion, not a bad price for a brand new release.

Pay Rise

I've just found out the for my classification at work I'm getting a 4.3% pay rise assuming of course I'm still in work next year:)

Tuesday, 18 November 2008

Take my credit card away now....

I've no idea if it was a mistake or just one of those short term offers but I picked up Fantastic4 and Silver Surfer in a two movie Blu-ray package for £17.95, the item is still listed at that price on Zavvi.
So I've finally decided to replace my broken PS3 for another PS3 but this time a UK model, given the dollar/pound exchange rate I won't even bother importing movies anytime soon so a Region B player will be fine. I went for the PS3 again for it's speed, flexibilty and the media server aspect which I really enjoyed using.

What to watch..

A few new Blu-rays arrived this week..
  • Chuck
  • Supernatural (s3)
  • Starship Troopers Trilogy (very cheap price)
Since I have Lost (s4) still sitting on the shelf I'm not sure when I'll get around to watching them. Then again the WTCC and Nascar seasons are near an end so that frees up a huge block of time and of course I have my accumulated holidays which I have to take before the years end.

PG Porn

"For people who like everything about porn...except the sex."

James Gunn's PG Porn is a comedy spoof which lampoons porn movies made in association with SpikeTV.
Only one episode yet but it stars Nathan Fillion and the gorgeous Aria Giovanni, not explicit so give it a go.

I've just watch the first two episodes of The Legend of the Seeker, loved it with only a few minor issues which will probably be addressed as the cast settles down.

Twilight

Twilight Trailer in HD

Icesave

I just got an email from The Financial Services Compensation Scheme in regards to my account with Icesave, a full refund is coming but since I don't have my main bank account (LloydsTSB) linked to the savings account I'll have to use a written application form. Annoying but I can't really complain with getting my savings back.

HD bits and pieces

Bond has finally been released on Blu-ray in a variety of packages, the prices aren't too extreme but as with most franchises I don't want every movie released so will have to cherry pick.
The new Freesat HD DVR has been officially announced for release next month at £299, a little high but unlike SKY and Freeview DVR's there is no subsidy or established market to make prices cheaper.
I got my UK copy of Iron Man yesterday, not a bad price (£15.98) from Amazon since the exchange rate has crippled US disc imports.

Sunday, 19 October 2008

Nip/Tuck

The sixth season of the show is not yet with us but an interesting trailer has turned up.

Colour Of Magic

I've just seen that The Colour Of Magic (TV movie adaptation of the first two Discworld novels) is being released on Blu-ray, Amazon UK have a listing here for November 3rd. A little surprised that Hogfather isn't first having been made a year or so before but perhaps the distributor believes the second has more commercial potential.

Monday, 13 October 2008

Smell the mushy peas and burgers.

It's that time of year and Ilkeston has it's annual fair, can't say I'm over excited by the latest rides nor the total lack of parking in town for the next week but there is something about burgers and mushy peas not to mention brandy snap bought whilst surrounded by neon, flashing lights and kids having fun:)

I had an earing test at work today, everything is working correctly.
From what I've been told a few of the older guys have a claim in for working in a noisy environment for many years and the company is looking to protect itself in years to come.

Thursday, 9 October 2008

Ark Of Truth

The first Stargate DVD movie Ark of Truth is finally getting a Blu-ray release in January, that I will double dip:)
I had a £1 vouched from Movietyme, had real trouble finding something to buy on Blu-ray, the pricing thanks to the exchange rate has seriously reduced the good value of US imported discs.
I ended up getting Men In Black for £8.99, like the movie and it's got decent reviews for video and audio quality.

Tuesday, 7 October 2008

It comes it goes (but only for a short time)

So I get an email telling me £28 has been put into my Paypal account from Quidco and then watch the news to find £3000 in my Icesave account is in limbo after the Iceland government took it over, never a dull day.

Sunday, 5 October 2008

Sanctuary

The once web based series Sanctuary kicked off as a TV series proper on the US Scifi channel last Friday, it's UK airing is Monday the 6th on ITV4 at 9pm.
A new official website has been launched to cover the TV version called Sanctuary For All.

Eli Stone the first season gets it's UK premiere on the Scifi Channel on the 6th a 9pm as well, strange channel choice and why it didn't get a better UK presence is a mystery.

Saturday, 4 October 2008

TV show mini-reviews

A few of my favourite shows came back for new seasons in the states in the last week or so, a few thoughts..
Heroes, only seen episode1 so far and overall a tad let down given how so many dead characters have not apparently died, commercial cop out by the producers.
Pushing Daises, looks gorgeous as always and more of the same from the great cast but the story was a little weak.
Chuck, came back with a bang and wrapped up the season 1 cliffhanger and threw in the action, comedy and underwear we've come to expect.

Shawshank Redemption arrived on Blu-ray yesterday, one of the best movies ever made.

Sunday, 28 September 2008

QMx Cylon Raider

It's been long promised but now it's here, the film prop level model of the Raiders from Battlestar are now being offered for sale, you can find details and more pictures here. I personally would love to own one but I can't really find $950 on my current earnings nor dip into the savings which may be needed when the economy goes into full recession.

Friday, 26 September 2008

Nothing much.

Totally enjoyed watching Pushing Daises in HD, looked beautiful as it's style really was suited to the in yer face aspect of HD with the CGI and colour schemes used. Started watching Eli Stone, even better the second time around, still not watched Smallville. Pre-ordered Iron Man on Blu-ray from Amazon, priced was reasonable, actually dropped a couple of pounds from the original price.

Terry Pratchett's latest "Nation" is next on my reading list, it is not a Discworld novel, unusual but what the hell:)

Saturday, 20 September 2008

Pushing Daises etc

Just watched the first 3 episodes of the series on Blu-ray, fantastic quality although not much on the extras front. Films We Like is the new podcast from Scott and Anthony formerly Scifi&Fantasty Podcast which fell by the wayside due to real world complications.
The DVD of Eli Stone arrived as well and I still haven't watched Smallville season7 Blu-ray yet, too little time.

Iron Man is due on Blu-ray very soon (some shipping already) but I find myself questioning the value of the movies, the A list even some I consider B list releases are vastly overpriced and it's always the same movies in the 2 for 1 or 3 for 2 deals.

Merlin the new BBC series starts tonight, not expecting too much after the joke that was Robin Hood but you never know. Yet again a major BBC series not offered in HD!

Monday, 15 September 2008

Goodies

Tinman on Blu-ray arrived today, a solid mini-series which thanks to HD go onto my shopping list. The DVD of ELi Stone is crossing the atlantic and Pushing Daises on Blu is close behind, not sure where I'll find the time to watch them though.
Started the new term at the adult education centre, doing a ECDL course, pretty much the same as CLAIT+ but some different approaches to the applications, not sure if I'll benefit but I quite enjoy the learning experience.

Friday, 12 September 2008

Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy and other bits.

It's pretty rare that I get that yucky felling when watching TV or at least the type of TV I watch but a couple of programmes this week had be squirming.
First off Profit where Jim gets frenched by a woman who he then calls "mom", if you haven't seen this short lived FOX show from way back I would highly recommend it. The second was a TV movie called Boa v's Python where a giant snake went down on a woman in the back seat of a car after it eat her fella who was previously doing the same, that was bizarre.

Seth MacFarlane has some new animated comedy at his Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy.

The soundtrack to Dr Horrible has been released, currently on itunes including outside the US.

Wednesday, 3 September 2008

Smallville

The Blu-ray version of Smallville season 7 arrived today from Movietyme.
Season 8 returns to US screens on the 18th of this month, just enough time to watch the boxset at my leisure and get ready for what looks like being a very different final season.

Monday, 1 September 2008

Legend Of The Seeker

Legend Of The Seeker is a TV adaptation of Wizard's First Rule a novel by Terry Goodkind.
The series premieres on 1st November in the US on Disney I believe although the series is intended for syndication.

Sunday, 31 August 2008

Ye Saga continues..

Just finished book4 of The Saga of Seven Suns and started Book5, ordered books 6 and 7 so hey I'll have caught up before the year is over. A paid day off work tomorrow, the car is going in for a service and it's first MOT, not cheap but that's car ownership in the UK under a Labour government using green issues to generate revenue.

Thursday, 28 August 2008

Eli Stone

One of the surprise hits of the summer US telly schedule was Eli Stone, surprisingly no good quality takers for the show this side of the pond even though it has a second season in production which had led to the UK scifi channel (no anamorphic widescreen, no HD and cluttered with onscreen garbage) picking it up.
Anyhow good news is that is has a R1 DVD release, going to order it and for around £17 excellent value.

The new boiler was installed today, didn't want to spend the money but the price of gas at a all time high and unlikely to ever decrease getting a more efficient boiler will pay for itself and start to save me money long term.

Sunday, 24 August 2008

Romancing the Stone

Great news is that both Romancing the Stone and the slightly less good Jewel of the Nile are getting a Blu-ray release this October along with a new DVD release. No word on any restoration but a bunch of new extras are included but alas a money grabbing RRP of $39.98 each!

I have to say after being a huge HD fan and embracing the formats (yes both) the pricing of the media now there is no format war seems to simply be exploiting the market with little to really justify such a large premium for the HD disks.

Friday, 22 August 2008

Stargate Atlantis

It was announced yesterday that Stargate Atlantis would end at this end of it's fifth season, a number of DVD movies similar to the format of the SG1 releases (Ark of Truth, Continuum) will continue the story. On the good side the third series of the franchise Stargate:Universe has got the green light for a summer 2009 premiere, this show has long been on the drawing board but the show runners have said having two shows at the same time wasn't an option.
More info at Gateworld.

Tuesday, 19 August 2008

Firefly Blu-ray

The Blu-ray version of Firefly has a release date of November 11th in the US, no sign of the CGI being rendered in HD so that's going to be upscaled and initially it looks like FOX is going to bleed the fans with an $88.98 price tag which is way too high for a catalogue 15 episode show.

Saturday, 16 August 2008

Heroes

The Blu-ray of the second season of Heroes arrived this morning from the US, great price (£29.99) and you have to laugh that the format is now capable of doing what HD DVD did at launch.
I also got book5 "Of Fire and Night" of the Seven Sun Saga, still waiting for book4 to arrive from Amazon in the US though. So much cheaper and easier if I had gone paperback.

Wednesday, 13 August 2008

Some good news

The Sarah Conner Chronicles on Blu-ray arrived from the US yesterday, very nice indeed and only £17.99 delivered. Heroes on Blu-ray has just been dispatched but right now I am in Roswell marathon mode.

Got my car insurance renewal, they were taking the piss ramping up the premium even though I have full no claims, the old tactic of relying on peoples inertia to not change providers, well I took a few minutes and got the policy £60 cheaper and £45 from Quidco.

Monday, 11 August 2008

Whoop!

I'm now in the company bonus scheme.
I got my slip today and this months bonus was £272, not bad at all but with my car insurance, road tax, mot and service a lot more is leaving my bank account!

Used the British Gas website to make an appointment for a survey and quote for a new boiler, it was for the 15th. Got a phone call today saying it was pushed back to the 27th and the guy on the phone said internet bookings didn't count. Pretty shabby and as the new appointment was outside of a special promotion I simply canceled, rather spend this serious amount of money with a company that doesn't piss me about.

Wednesday, 6 August 2008

Caprica

It's been announced that the BSG spin off Caprica has been bought by SKY1.
I can't say I am that excited, there is nothing in the show that really appeals but I'll be tuning in and hoping to be surprised.

Scifi & Fantasy Podcast

One of my favourite podcasts is fading, the Scifi&Fantasy Podcast hosted by Scott and Anthony which has been a great source of humour thanks to the guys love of movies and tv show as shown in their reviews of both old and new stuff.
I don't know how long the archive will remain alive but believe me it's worth a visit and a listen to some of their work, best wishes to both Scott and Anthony for the future.

Saga of Seven Suns

So there I was just browsing my book shelves not in the mood for Discworld or the Trek franchise and I pulled out this hard back book when I didn't recognise, it was Kevin J Anderson's Hidden Empire book1 of The Saga of Seven Suns.
I probably bought it years ago when I was in the Scifi&Fantasy book club and it's been sitting on the shelf ever since, anyhow I started reading it and it's pretty damn good and of course as I like Hardback I've had to get used copies (and not that cheap for out of print good condition examples) but once I've read books two and three I may be able to get new hardbacks from 4 onwards at a decent price.

Terminator Salvation

The first legit trailer for the new Terminator movie starring Christian Bale has appeared....

Terminator 4 Teaser Trailer
by teaser-trailer

Eurekas third season kicks off on the US Scifi channel tonight, no date for SKY1 but I may wait for the HD offering.

Monday, 28 July 2008

Steven Moffat

Steven Moffat who has written some of the better Dr Who scripts and also wrote Jekyll and Coupling has an online interview here, good read.

Sunday, 27 July 2008

Terry Pratchett

Terry Pratchett's official publishers have launched a new website. Even a quick skim through indicates a very good TP and DW resource.

Wednesday, 23 July 2008

Chuck

I'm delighted to read that Chuck will be appearing on Blu-ray at least in the US later this year. A great show which I refused to buy on DVD as quite frankly if it ain't HD then they are not getting my money.

The second season returns to US telly and a PC near you on September 29th.

Sunday, 20 July 2008

PC woes

Well this has been a lot of fun, power cut part way through the rebuild really didn't help matters even before the really hot CPU running issues and random shutdowns. Touch wood cleaning the contacts, new thermal paste and re-seating the heat sink has solved the problem.
Also silly me when I was in a little mess sorting out a new motherboard I forgot at least one option I needed as in two digital audio outputs, only have one now so it's feeding the amp and I'm using old fashioned analogue for the desktop.
You try to save a little money by buying lower spec kit and there you go, should have gone for the uber deluxe model like I did with the previous board:)

I have finally managed to watch Dr. Horrible which when you get right down to it was the catalyst for the fun I've had, probably a co-incidence but....

Wednesday, 16 July 2008

It never rains.....

As if my PS3 problems were not enough high tech fun my PC throw a tantrum while downloading the new itunes and after much head scratching I am pretty sure the motherboard has partially failed.
At first I thought it was the ISP, then the router/lan and finally after realising I had also lost the onboard audio it kinda dawned on me. I've dug out my aging PC, ripped off the dust covers and got back online, now have to spend more money on getting the main PC put togther.

Still haven't got around to watching the first episode of Dr.Horrible off the new site which streams to those outside the US.

Saturday, 12 July 2008

PC HD

So my PS3 is a dead duck and I am not buying another, I may have had a lemon but reading some US forums it seems the issue I had is not that uncommon and without a solid warranty it's not worth it.

However I now have Blu-ray (and HD DVD) playback on my PC via a LG DVD writer Blu/HD DVD player coupled with Power DVD and Slysofts AnyDVD HD software which removes region coding and HDCP, sweet.

Thursday, 10 July 2008

Heroes

The BBC have put our cash where their mouth is and secured all future seasons of Heroes for an agreed price, no public release of the exact details despite it being our money.
Still the BBC have said they will show episodes within a week of the US broadcast and in HD so no complaints there as anything that reduces my bandwidth is a good thing.

Wednesday, 9 July 2008

TSSC Season2 trailer

Bugger!

It seems my US PS3 can not be repaired so that's a quite a costly piece of SONY crap I bought, yes the PS3 itself was a revelation but a bit of a joke we are supposed to be in a global economy but SONY UK washes it's hands of SONY US products.
Looking into a PC based solution so I can make use of my Region A titles and perhaps get a UK PS3, does confirm my overall opinion of the machine if not it's reliability.

Saturday, 5 July 2008

House

The new season5 promo is currently airing, nothing significant content wise unless you have not seen the season4 finale.

Friday, 4 July 2008

My first 3 months at work are almost done and I've been taken on as a fulltime permanent (well as far as anything is permanent) employee. That should mean I get a share of the monthly productivity bonus and some freedom in holiday entitlement.

Sad news as Don S. Davis passed away June 29th.
Best known for his role as General Hammond in Stargate SG1 and as a military guy in Twin Peaks, only 65 years of age.

Sunday, 29 June 2008

Charlie Jade

This Canadian/South African scifi series (recently shown on FXUK and now on the UK Scifi channel) has an exclusive R2 release as a full season boxset for the very attractive price of £11.97 from Amazon UK. There is also a dedicated commentary podcast intended to partner the US screening so that's worth making a note of as well, Verse.

Wednesday, 25 June 2008

PS3 part2

A bit of a surprise but the PS3 started working again and long enough to get into the settings and reset the system, wiped the drive which was pretty full. The console continued to work for over a day and watched a Blu-ray on it and then red flashing light once again.
It certainly seems to be an overheating issue and while I can make use of the US warranty I have to cover shipping to the US which isn't going to happen:)

Anyhow, looking into a cooling approach (so Voodoo graphics) so there is hope.

Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You?

He shoots he scores, I can live with Kosh.

So what Scifi/Fantasy character are you?

Thanks to Rachel over on ScifiDig forums for the link

Sunday, 22 June 2008

Nuts

So I was watching Reign Of Fire last night, average picture but good soundtrack and the picture froze about half way through, had to reboot the PS3 and now it seems to be dead.
Not a huge problem if it was a UK machine but it's a US import and that seriously complicates things to the point I think it is scrap.

Friday, 20 June 2008

Top Gear returns to BBC2 this Sunday, it's been a long wait and no doubt will be pre-empted for sports sometime during it's run.

I've got 3 new Blu-ray pre-orders from Movietyme....
  • Pushing Daises
  • Smallville
  • Sarah Conner Chronicles

I guess sooner or later Lost can be added to the HD list as well.

Wednesday, 18 June 2008

I know I am a bit of a collector when it comes to media of all sorts hence the 2.5Tb hard drive capacity the PC has access too but I never really thought I would fill the 40gig on the PS3!

Saturday, 14 June 2008

BSG:Revelations

Oh my.......

Twiddling my thumbs

It's been a quiet few days, nothing special happening at work or at home.
The Euro2008 championships are on telly but then the 20/20 Cricket has started as well and that is my first choice in TV viewing, probably the best form of cricket at the moment hence the Stanford $20 million dollar game in Antigua, details here.

Grabbed a few more HD DVD movies for under a fiver each but I think that's it now for that format.

Saturday, 7 June 2008

Jumper

Jumper arrived in the post on Blu-ray this morning, it was a blind buy well more to the point one of the 10 movies I choose to be included in the PS3 bundle.
Having just watched the movie my final thought at the end was the movie could start now, it really was roughly 90minutes of buildup and very little pay off, the sequel might actually be worth watching. I've never read the novel but it was discussed on The Kick-Ass Mystic Ninjas podcast so I was perhaps expecting a lot more from the movie.

Friday, 6 June 2008

Trek on HD DVD

I vowed never to buy this HD DVD combo but Amazon Canada were selling it for £25 and well I can put away my distaste for combos for that price, even with the £12 import penalty I got hit with still made it a good deal.
The set can still be bought for $49.99 Canadian Dollars, linky.

A nice surprise to see the CH4 HD are going to show Reaper from the start, it's been on there E4 channel in SD widescreen so I didn't bother as I had already seen the show via other means.

Friday, 30 May 2008

Firefly

I don't quite like the idea of Fox milking Firefly especially as it looks like they are not going to create new HD CGI for the original SD effects but I know I am going to end up buying the show on Blu-ray mainly because the UHD versions are piss poor.
Amazon now have the Blu-ray boxset up for pre-order.

Wednesday, 28 May 2008

Witchblade

I never read the graphic novels/comics so was only exposed to the story with the TV series which I enjoyed especially the twist for the second season. The DVD of season1 is releasd in July on R1, listing here and I may purchase.
On the horizon is a new theatrical movie set for 2009, don't you just love the early promo poster...

Monday, 26 May 2008

Pushing Daises

The world is suddenly a better place..
Pushing Daises is going to be released on Blu-ray around September time, a must have.

Wednesday, 21 May 2008

Panasonic TH-46PZ85B

Whoohoo...
My new TV arrived well yesterday but only just got it setup and I have to say even though I really couldn't fault my 9986 LCD this new Plasma really is in another league.
The model is the TH-46PZ85B from Panasonic and cost me £600 less than the 32" LCD I bought in December 2004, everything else is rocketing in price but HD displays are falling through the floor.

Monday, 19 May 2008

Wanted

Wanted is a new movie starring Angelina Jolie, Morgan Sheppard and James McAvoy which tells the story of Wesley a mild mannered average guy who learns his long beleived dead father was until a a few days ago alive and a deadly assassin.
You really do have to see the trailers to understand how good this movie looks, HD and SD versions on offer from the official website.

Sunday, 18 May 2008

The Guild

The Guild is a collection of live action videos about a group of World of Warcraft players and their real life ups and downs yet still game related, it's very funny and each episode is short so you can watch whenever you have a few minutes in front of your computer.

House (ep15) Cuddy Rocks!

A magnificent scene as Cuddy only just dressed as a Catholic School Girl does a pole dance for House. The titilation aside it was a quality episode with a stunning ending, part2 next week..

Gatecast

We have a new Podcast to listen too from two guys who I have listened to and read posts from over at SciFiDig, the Gatecast has it's first full episode (ep 0 so be prepared) discussing the movie, the website is live and can be found here.

A little more US telly news, it looks like Moonlight is also cancelled although a few rumours there could be a pickup for a new TV venture.

Tuesday, 13 May 2008

US TV News

Reaper has been renewed for a second season and even better so has Eli Stone.
Alas New Amsterdam has been cancelled, not a great surprise since despite a good premise the really screwed it up.

Saturday, 10 May 2008

Star Trek LCARS Screen Saver

I've never really been a fan of screen savers especially as they are not needed for modern display protection but this one which presents the Star Trek TNG computer display is good enough to be used all the time never mind during down time.
It's a one man project who goes under the name of System47, worth a look.

Thursday, 8 May 2008

Robocop, Broken Arrow and I, Robot all arrived on Blu-ray today:)
ITV have finally announced a HD offering, being a Free To Air broadcast it has come as a big surprise they have tweaked the parameters so half a million UK homes with SKY HD boxes (which can access FTA channels) can not watch the channel. Speculation swings between ITV wanting to avoid a userbase that is 100% DVR or they want paying for a FTA channel, ITV being a Public Service Broadcaster and while not forced to offer HD it's against the spirit of their license to deny it to the public via satellite which they already use for their SD channels.

Saturday, 3 May 2008

Blu-ray

Still having to play share the digital input on the TV between the PS3 and SKYHD box (which will change in a week or so) but still impressed with the overall quality of the PS3 as a Blu-ray playback device when used with the remote control.
I just finished watching Spiderman (UK version) and watched Shoot 'Em Up (US) last night, both looked and sounded great.

I've just finished reading Small Favour the latest Dresden novel from Jim Butcher, highly enjoyable and builds on the previous novels which is really raising the status of the whole series. The TV show which I also enjoyed is currently being repeated on SKY1HD, damn shame they didn't have the bottle to do a real adaptation, that could have been eye-popping.

Kent McCord

A very good interview with Kent McCord (Farscape, BSG) over at Scifi Talk podcast.

Friday, 25 April 2008

My US PS3 arrived today, 48 hours from across the pond ain't bad. I went for the US version for the larger selection of titles some not even releases in the UK as of yet. I really do need to get the new Plasma, talk about a spaghetti junction of cabling, currently be HD box has no digital link but on the up side I've got the PS3 streaming content from the PC (but not the NAS).

Sarah Conner Chronicles

Not a big surprise but good to have confirmation of the shows pickup for a second season, interview with the producer here.

GI Joe

Being a Brit I had Action Man as a boy so know little about GI Joe but I do know if Rachel Nicols is in the upcoming movie playing Scarlett and looking like this then I'm there.

Friday, 18 April 2008

My latest Harry Dresden novels arrived today, Dead Beat, Proven Guilty and White Night. I enjoyed the TV series but the Jim Butcher novels are a whole different class.
My first week of the new job has come to and end, it's ok but I have serious issues with the travel time.

Continuum Blu-ray

Stargate Continuum is being reported as a Blu-ray release in addition to it's DVD version, I've been waiting for a reason to add a Blu-ray player and up until know it was The Dark Knight but SG1 in HD goes to the front of the queue. Already watch the show and Atlantis in HD thanks to SKY but it's so much better Ad and Dog free.

The new job ain't too bad but it took me 75 minutes to travel 10 miles and yes there had been an accident but the day before it was 40 minutes, not sure the money is enough to justify this sort of hassle. I did have another interview this morning (6.15am) at a local plastics company, money not so great but £20 a week saving in petrol and night shift premiums.

I got my BSG Dog Tags from QMX, pre-ordered them quite a while ago so since they were already paid for a very nice present.

First day at the new job.
The commute is going to kill me, the money is simply not good enough to hit Nottingham rush hour coming and going. I've heard that after 3 months you can go onto a more flexible workday, start a little earlier and finish earlier, that would be better but those 3 months are going to drag.
To be honest I would like to keep looking for another job but my whole day is gone so I leave work to go for an interview more than once and I probably won't have a job to go back too plus zero state benefits.
On the plus side Lorraine the HR officer is just too pretty for words.

Pushing Daises

The show premièred in the UK yesterday and well I watched it again, that's three times and well if they release it on Blu-ray then I'll buy a player.
For some stupid reason ITV are not going to show episode 2, in their wisdom they have given it a timeslot (9pm Saturday) which only has 8 weeks before the next round of reality crap.

Scifi Review..

The latest BSG episode "Six of One" was excellent, some very good character building and the initial stages of the Cylon society going the way most cultures do sooner or later. Yesterdays Dr Who "The Fires of Pompeii" was again a bit of a let down but saved from being just average by some decent writing especially the scene with the two seers confronting the Dr and that Tate woman.

Friday, 11 April 2008

I finally got around to watching two of the better known scifi movies of recent times namely Cloverfield and AvP Requiem and I have to say both had excellent trailers and were a total disappointment. When you cheer on the "monsters" then I think the directors has lost their way.

Thursday, 10 April 2008

I just got a phone call from a company I had previously interviewed for and they've offered me a job, it's not the one I wanted and the money isn't as good but I really do need to start earning and well it has been a while.

SG Continuum, why wait...

Quality isn't great but it'll soon be doing the rounds in it's proper presentation as the release date nears.

Welcome all,

I'm currently in the process of closing my main website having run into cash flow issues and since it was mainly used for sporadic blogging anyway I might as well make use of the blogger service.
